Jeanne Steffan is a painter living in Portland Oregon.

She is inspired by iconic and ordinary images, allegory, and the persuasion of color. The subjects vary in her work, but nature is a constant. Flat shapes wrestle with an imagined depth. Whether tangible or abstracted, her subjects draw you in and allow you to live within the space of her work. In her words, “I have spent years capturing images and giving shape to ideas. It is the hit and miss of those attempts that keep me in the game”. 

Artist Statement:

In Koine Greek, beauty is associated with “being of one’s hour”. Simply put, beauty is the present. It is being true to what a thing is at any given moment. Nature is a constant reminder of how temporal beauty is. I feel compelled in my work to preserve that which is fleeting, ephemeral, and “of one’s hour”.
